Playing a critical role in a child’s first educational experience is not a responsibility that Lauren Rome, one of PCA’s preschool teachers, takes lightly. “Having the chance to be part of a child’s first learning experience, and hopefully help them develop a love for school is extremely rewarding,” she states.

Lauren Rome was inspired to become an educator by watching her mom, who was also a teacher while growing up. She recounts some of her fondest childhood memories were helping in her mother’s classroom and playing her own version of school during afternoons and summer breaks. “My mom definitely played a major role in my decision to become an educator,” she recalls. Mrs. Rome is now in her ninth year of teaching! She taught fifth grade in the Autauga County School System before becoming a mother herself, and then transitioned to her church’s preschool program before eventually accepting a teaching position on campus.

If you ever pop into her classroom, you’ll most likely catch her teaching with an over-the-top enthusiasm that she’s known for among her coworkers. And if it’s a dress-up day, you can count on Lauren to have on the wildest, craziest costumes! Mrs. Rome also has a great sense of humor that has dubbed her the practical joker in PCA’s preschool building. You can always count on her to make sure “there is never a dull day in pre-K.” And if you ever want to win her over, surprise her with anything chocolate and peanut butter – a snack combination she enjoys!

Mrs. Rome earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Auburn University. She is married to Jason Rome, and they have three children; Joseph, Sam, and Annie. When not in her classroom, Lauren enjoys reading, crafting, and spending time outdoors – whether it’s golfing, hiking, or hanging out on the water with her family. They attend Prattville First United Methodist, where she volunteers with various youth and children’s program and activities.

When asked about teaching at PCA, Mrs. Rome says she enjoys the Christian environment where she is free to share about Jesus with her students and help them begin to understand what is means to develop a personal relationship with Christ.
