PCA will adopt a full block schedule for students in grades 6-12 to minimize the spread of germs by using fewer classrooms on a given day, reducing the number of students in hallways during class changes, and giving faculty members more time to focus on lessons. Students will have on-campus classes Monday through Thursday of every week, and Fridays will be utilized as digital learning days for students to complete assignments from home (or on campus as needed based on parents’ work schedules). A typical five-day school week will be divided up accordingly.

Block Instruction

Monday
1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 7th periods

Tuesday
4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th periods

Wednesday
1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 7th periods

Thursday
4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th periods

Friday
Digital Learning Day
Students are welcome to attend school on Fridays. Facilities will be open and teachers will be available. Also, Fridays will allow students to schedule additional help from a teacher, meet with extracurricular clubs from 12 – 2 p.m., or plan other school activities such as ACT prep, etc. Coaches can start scheduling athletic practices at 2 p.m. on Fridays as well.

Holiday Schedule
On holiday weeks, students will be on campus for the remaining four days of that week. If the holiday falls on a Monday, classes will begin the week with 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th periods as normal on Tuesday, keep 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 7th periods on Wednesday, repeat 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th periods on Thursday, and end the week with 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 7th periods on Friday.

Block Schedule

Students will receive the same amount of classroom instruction on the block and online schedule as they did previously on PCA’s standard schedule; approximately 250 minutes per week. On the block schedule, students will be in a classroom for 200 minutes per class and will complete classwork digitally on Fridays for an average of 45 minutes per class.

Middle school students will attend each auxiliary class for one half of a block period every week with the exception of Art which is a full block period; more information available on student schedules.
