Bible class is taught using the latest Christian Schools International curriculum. This material seeks to promote an understanding of God’s word so that students are able to apply Biblical principals in their lives.
PCA uses Foundations and Frameworks reading program. This program deepens student comprehension of subject matter and focuses on enhancing critical thinking skills both in reading and writing. Our goals for the students is to develop a deep understanding in reading fluency and comprehension skills, spelling/vocabulary, writing, and grammar by providing students with whole group and small group instruction and activities. Trade and chapter books are used to supplement the curriculum.
Mathematics is taught using Houghton Mifflin’s GO Math curriculum. Objectives include the introduction and practice of number sense, geometry, measurement, multiplication, division, problem-solving, and rational numbers. Students are taught to see math as authentic and meaningful. Much of the class is taught through problem-solving.
Dimensions by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt is the text used in our elementary school. Life, earth, and physical sciences are taught in various grade levels. This curriculum promotes critical thinking through many hands-on activities. Throughout the course, reading comprehension, writing skills, and research projects are all used to enhance student learning.
Social Studies is taught through integrated thematic units in early childhood classes. Students are engaged in a variety of authentic and meaningful learning projects and activities to stimulate their learning in these areas. Fourth graders study Alabama history. This class researches the history, geography, political science, and economics of Alabama. The fifth-grade history course starts is a study of the early start of the United States through 1877. Students will become familiar with major events in the period of the American Revolution, Westward Expansion, and the Civil War.
