PCA families –

Thank you for your participation in the Digital Friday parent survey. Your feedback was heard and used to strengthen PCA’s decision to continue its current four-day block schedule. Since converting to a block schedule, PCA’s administrators have observed these positive indicators:

  • Students grew more responsible in turning in assignments online in a timely manner and challenged students who were timid about completing work without continual guidance.

  • Students work harder to be at school to not miss a block day of instruction since classes only meet twice each week.

  • Students are allowed extra time to rest and recharge between academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities.

  • Students are able to receive longer amounts of time of one-on-one attention with their instructors on Fridays. For some, this is needed help, while for others, it aids in making up missed work. We are also requiring any students who are failing to come in to complete work in that class with the instructor on those Fridays.

PCA’s upper school families overwhelmingly indicated their desire to keep the current four-day block schedule, so there will be no changes for students in grades 8-12 at this time. PCA’s middle school families were mixed on their responses, so in an effort to accommodate all students, PCA’s administrative team is working to add more structure to Digital Fridays on campus.

Beginning this week, students in grades 6-7 will have access to the following schedule. The extra classroom time is required for any students missing work or with a D or F in a particular subject and optional for students with questions who are on campus completing Digital Friday assignments. A middle school teacher will gather the students and walk them between buildings for additional assistance and will return them to finish the day under the direction of the teacher who is watching them for the remainder of the day. If you are unsure that your child will request the help needed, you may complete this form each week with notes for teachers to ensure they get questions answered.

Families will be surveyed again in March 2022 to request feedback on PCA’s four-day block schedule and its effectiveness for students in grades 6-12. Your feedback will be used to assist in developing the schedule for the 2022-2023 school year.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Rachael Heartsill, Lower School Principal or Marla Evans, Upper School Principal.
