PCA’s Giving Spirit – A Note from the PCA President

 In School News

The giving spirit of the PCA family continually amazes me! This past Saturday will go down as one of the greatest days of Christian teamwork in the history of our school and everything was completed without incident and to the glory of God.

As I list my observations, I will no doubt miss mentioning many people by name so please excuse my oversight.

5:30 a.m. — PCA staff members Amanda Redman and Caley Bloodworth led a team of National Honor Society students and volunteers that conducted the largest Panther Prowl 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run to date. Many hours of work resulted in two well-run and successful races that benefit the Panther One Hundred, PCA’s Annual Fund. For hours after the race, the team took down the infrastructure and cleaned up the area.

7:00 a.m. — Booster Club Officers Jason Graham, Amanda Redman, Jeff Roy and Mayra Atchley began leadership of what would be 14+ hours of concession stand and press box management during the Termite/Pee Wee Tournament. Numerous parent volunteers spent hours working the concession stand and assisting in various ways.
7:30 a.m. — Athletic Director Tara Osborne and her husband, Patrick began leadership of what would be 14+ hours of tournament and campus management for the Termite/Pee Wee Tournament. Tara and a few staff members oversaw the parking and entry of 1,000 players, cheerleaders, coaches and fans while assuring game management and the entry and exit of 16 officials. After the tournament, trash was collected, the concession stands were secured and the campus was readied for school on Monday.

8:00 a.m. — The baseball field comes alive as Coach Jerry Greene and his coaches began baseball tryouts for the 2015-16 season. With the support of many parents who watched hard working baseball players start their journey to another God-honoring season.

9:00 a.m. — PCA Termite and Pee Wee football players and the cheerleading squads began to arrive; they are quickly organized by hard working volunteer coaches who have spent numerous hours preparing them for this season and the tournament.

9:15 a.m. — The lunchroom came alive as Coach Trent Staggs managed the weigh-in of eight football teams that participated in the Termite/Pee Wee Tournament.

9:30 a.m. — Sam Peak, Randy Grissett and Eric Holt finalized the electricity and heating plans for the new athletic building between the football and baseball fields. This building, funded by the PCA Booster Club, will house wrestling practices, athletic activities, and provide locker room areas for all outside sports.

As I reflect back on Saturday morning, I can’t help but be filled with pride and absolute gratitude. Within a four-hour time span, the PCA family showed God’s love in numerous ways to many in our community. Consider the seeds that were planted for His Kingdom during this one day. This was a tremendous display of love and support for our school and the wonderful students who are preparing for life at home, church and on the PCA campus.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for all that you did and continue to do in His name.

God is good,

Ron Mitchell
President
