Kaylon Cantrell is celebrating a decade in education and at PCA! Coach K, as she’s better known on campus, knew that Prattville Christian Academy was where she was meant to be after graduating college. Having graduated from PCA in 2006, she was eager to return as a mentor and share the life lessons she’d learned from her teachers and coaches while on campus.
Ms. Cantrell was inspired to educate future generations from watching her mother teach while growing up, and after finding enjoyment in tutoring during high school. After graduating from PCA, Kaylon earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics Education from Faulkner University. Earning a mathematics-focused education degree gave her the ability to not only teach the subject, but inspire students to understand (and maybe even like) math concepts. Coach K teaches Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Honors Algebra 1. In addition to her classroom duties, she is the head volleyball coach for the top-three ranked Lady Panthers.
When asked about what she enjoys most about being at PCA, she noted the Christian atmosphere and the sense of family among co-workers. “When I’m at school, whether teaching or coaching, I don’t feel like I’m at work because I love what I do,” said Ms. Cantrell. “And I enjoy the people that are here with me.” Among her co-workers, Kaylon is known as the super organized faculty member. She’s the one everyone looks to every school year for her simplified, color-coded, every detail thought through schedules that help make sense of the daily grind during the first few weeks of school.
When she’s not in the classroom, she prefers to be outdoors. If it involves water, she’s in…whether it’s fishing, kayaking, or swimming at the lake. She also enjoys exercising, reading, spending time with family and friends, and watching all types of sports. She also volunteers her time teaching young girls how to develop their skills through YMCA volleyball clinics. Coach K attends Centerpoint Fellowship Church where she’s previously served on the church’s worship team.
