PCA’s L.I.F.T. (Learning, Inspiration, Faith, and Truth) program is designed to assist lower school students with all components of reading, including phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. The newly expanded program ensures that all students, regardless of ability, are provided the opportunity to succeed based on the services offered during their formative years. All students in grades K-3 are assessed annually to determine grade-level reading skills and placed into appropriate reading groups to grow their skills during the school year.

Not all students will thrive in the classroom or small group sessions and may need additional intervention to achieve reading success. PCA’s Orton-Gillingham (OG) trained interventionists assess identified students multiple times during the school year, provide one-on-one Orton-Gillingham, Reading Readiness, and RTI-type intervention, assist with the provision of technology to enhance classroom studies, and develop individualized reading plans for each student enrolled in the program in accordance with specifications listed in the child’s educational diagnosis report.

Providing high-quality instruction in foundational reading skills, along with appropriate interventions, as early as Kindergarten, equips struggling readers for success in school and life while preserving self-esteem and possibly eliminating the need for special services in the future.

Application

  • Individualized and small group instruction tailored to your child’s specific needs three days per week for an hour per session.
  • Progress Monitoring of Literacy Skills for K4-3rd grade students
  • Annual Comprehensive Dyslexia Screeners for all students in Kindergarten through 1st gradeTesting accommodations for eligible students are provided such as, but not limited to:
  • Extended time
  • Quiet testing areas
  • Oral testing and assistive technology for dictation

While solidifying reading skills are of utmost importance in the lower elementary grades, assisting students of various learning exceptionalities is equally important. In this program, we are also able to serve students with minor learning exceptionalities such as ADHD, Autism, and Gifted Learners. Interventionists will be visiting all classrooms weekly to assist students who may need additional assistance.

Reading Intervention Services

Option 1: Individualized Instruction: three hours a week with an Interventionist. We will pull students from class at a predetermined time that works best for their schedule and ours. We would absolutely try to avoid PE, recess and core instruction time.

This option is an additional $4,750 per year.

Option 2: Small Group Instruction: three hours per week with an interventionist. They will be placed in a group with students who are on a similar level to them at a predetermined time that works best for their schedule and mine. With this option, there will be more distractions since there will be other students. If the student shows struggles with being able to get the most out of their sessions, due to distractions, we will let you know! Enrolling in individual therapy may be necessary if the group setting is not the student’s least restrictive environment.

This option is an additional $3,500 per year.
