Robert Holt didn’t envision a high school teaching career when he graduated college, but he’s closing out his 20th year in education, and he can’t imagine doing anything else. Coach Holt has taught high school math since arriving on campus in 2012. In addition to teaching, he sponsors the school’s Key Club, tutors in PCA’s Resource Center, coaches wrestling, and assists with the soccer program.

Coach Holt graduated from Auburn University of Montgomery with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with an emphasis in Engineering. “The teaching field found me while I was working in the business world,” said Holt. “A coworker of my wife heard that I had a degree in the field of mathematics, and asked if I would like to become a teacher. I accepted the offer and have been teaching ever since.” Coach Holt taught for 12 years in the Montgomery Public School System before moving to PCA.

Coach Holt can always be found on campus early every morning. He’s “responsible” for making the coffee for his coworkers. And while this may seem like a small deed to some, it exemplifies his consistently caring attitude towards his work family. “He’s the one you can always count on to check-in via text or telephone call if a staff member is absent from work or out of their usual routine,” said Pat Dean, PCA’s Upper School Guidance Counselor. His schedule, like many others, is hectic and ever-changing, but he’s always available to lend a helping hand. Whether it’s an emergency need for copying tests, driving buses, or running an errand across town, Coach Holt finds a way to make it happen. Helping students understand math is his passion and something he thrives on! Many of his students return home from college during holiday breaks for tutoring. He always makes himself available for early morning or weekend tutoring sessions. He never hesitates to help – day, night, or weekend.

When he’s not on campus, he enjoys hanging out with his family. He’s married to Kim Holt, and they have two children; Bryan, a 2016 PCA graduate, and Kendall, a PCA junior. One of his favorite pastimes is cooking. “I love to cook,” says Coach Holt. “Whether it’s inside in my kitchen or on my back porch outdoor kitchen. I am always watching the Food Network channel, reading cooking magazines, or scanning the internet for new recipes.” He also enjoys golf, running, biking, and walking the dogs with his wife. Coach Holt enjoys the opportunity to work and teach in an environment that encourages the next generation of leaders to grow academically and spiritually.
