PCA’s Engineering Academy Receives Grant Funding

 In School News

Prattville Christian Academy’s Engineering Academy received a $9,100 grant from International Paper Foundation to purchase materials and supplies for the growing program.

Since the first course was offered five years ago, PCA’s Engineering Academy has grown from 13 students to more than 55 students. This four-year program teaches critical thinking and reasoning skills as well as the opportunity for students to work with their hands in a technologically advanced setting. PCA’s Engineering Academy, along with similar programs, offers students the chance to learn more about a profession they want to pursue beyond high school.

“This program introduces students to engineering processes, methods, and a problem-solving mindset,” said David Dean, program instructor. The courses engage students in real-world challenges that help them become better collaborators and thinkers. Students learn in-demand knowledge and skills they will use in high school and for the rest of their lives, on any path they take.”

International Paper has been a generous supporter of PCA’s Engineering Academy since the beginning. IP employees have served on the academy’s community advisory committee and the company has provided funding for each of the four courses: Introduction to Engineering Design, Principles of Engineering, Civil Engineering and Architecture and the capstone course.
