Lady Panthers Win Wetumpka Softball Tournament, Secure Program’s 300th Win
The Lady Panthers are Wetumpka Tournament Champions after recording six wins over the weekend. The 12-2 defeat of Elmore County secured the team’s 300th win in program history.
In just 12 seasons, the Lady Panthers are 303-173 despite not winning a single game in the inaugural season and only improving to four wins in the 2008 season. The first winning season came two years in with a record of 24-21 in 2009. Since that time, the girls have been unstoppable with nine straight winning seasons, including a 3A state championship to end last season – the first AHSAA championship in school history.
Coach Marcus Gippert has been an integral part of the Lady Panthers since the first day of practice! “I’ve been blessed to be a part of Prattville Christian’s softball program since the very beginning,” said Gip, the Lady Panthers’ nickname for PCA’s assistant softball coach. “We’ve come a long way since that first win in 2008. There have been so many young ladies who’ve come through the program that laid the foundation for the success this team enjoys today.”
Ten Lady Panthers have continued their love of the sport by signing with various colleges to play at the next level including the program’s first NCAA Division I scholarship signed by Kathryn Fallen this year to play at Samford University. Madison Hanson has also committed to Auburn University beginning in 2021.
“The future is bright for this program,” says Coach Randy Stough, PCA’s head softball coach. “This young team has so much talent and everyone plays a big role in making the program successful. I’m already looking forward to defending our state title at Lagoon Park later this season.”
