Coach Rob Surprised with 600+ Basketball Wins Celebration

 In Athletics

PCA’s varsity basketball coach, Jason Roberson, received his 600th win last season, and since then, he has added tremendously to that score! After the November 9th varsity basketball games, the school was proud to honor his achievement as a surprise to him.

In the 2003-2004 school year, Coach Roberson coached in Georgia at Stockbridge High School before transferring to PCA as the school’s first soccer and basketball coach. He also became the first baseball and cross country coach and has even coached softball on campus. Throughout all of these commitments, though, Coach Rob has been coaching basketball for 20 years. His initial decision to start coaching was made because he “[loved] the sport and [is] very passionate about the team aspect.” He said, “I believe there are so many great life lessons that can be taught and learned through the game of basketball. I love working with kids and helping them reach goals that they never even realized they could reach on their own. Life is not about us. It is about serving God and serving others. Coaching and being a part of a team is a great example of this! It is an amazing feeling to make sure your teammates are more important than yourself, and hopefully, we can help them understand the same is true about life…that is when we find true joy, satisfaction, and purpose!”

When asked how he keeps his players motivated, he responded, “Really I think we just constantly talk about being the very best we can be everyday! Consistency is the key to success. This is really all God asks from us….to use the gifts, talents, and abilities He has blessed us with along with the opportunities He provides us to be the best we possibly can be and give Him the glory and honor for it all!”

Coach Roberson incorporates God in so many ways through his coaching and his attitude towards others. When asked about playing for him, two of the seniors on the basketball team, Ella Jane Connell and Naomi Taake, said, “I have played for Coach Rob for three years. Coach Rob has helped my love for the sport grow in many ways. Basketball has never been number one for me, but he always makes sure to let me know he sees how hard I work! He made the sport more fun for me and has been one of the best coaches I have had! Congrats to Coach Rob!”

Ella Jane also said, “I have played for Coach Rob for four years and been with him for one additional year as an ineligible player. He has helped me grow my love for basketball by making it a challenge. Playing for Coach Rob is not always a nice stroll through the park. His love for the game and his players is shown through his passionate coaching of becoming the best that you can be. He is so successful as a coach because of his true dedication to the sport, his character (that includes consistency and faith), and his ability to push his players. I have learned so many specifics of the game of basketball from Coach Rob, but I have especially learned all that is required to be the best that you can be. I think that is the reason that I have always loved the game and continue to love it more; being successful is not easy. There is no limit to someone’s basketball ability, and Coach Rob pushes his players to continue reaching that next level of their game.”

Congratulations, Coach Rob! Keep grabbing those wins!
