Annabelle Adkins Earns Opportunity to March in Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade
Last week Annabelle Adkins, a PCA junior, was awarded the extraordinary opportunity of participating in the 94th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade as a member of Macy’s Great American Marching Band (MGAMB) colorguard section. This honor band recognizes 225 of the finest high school musicians and dancers from across the country. Annabelle says that it was “hundreds of members from around the United States [who] met for the first time and learned the drill, music, and steps all within five days. It was such a fun experience,” she adds.
Each member is chosen through audition, and the band is welcomed by about 3 million spectators, performing in front of celebrity hosts, a grandstand audience, and over 50 million television viewers. According to Annabelle’s father, the primary purpose of the MGAMB organization is to offer students from smaller schools the chance to have the kind of experience that they otherwise would not have due to the size of their bands. Macy’s Great American Marching Band is led by Dr. Richard Good, Dr. Doug Rosener, Mr. Bart Woodley, Ms. Kailene Laga, and numerous gifted music directors who assist in other components of the band’s performance.
Annabelle’s accomplishment is well-deserved. Congratulations on a stunning performance to her and all those selected to partake in this excellent experience!
