Coach Stough Celebrates 675th Career Softball Win

 In School News, Athletics

Coach Randy Stough was honored with a surprise presentation before the start of the 3A Area 6 softball tournament. During the Pike Road game in late April, Coach Stough reached a significant milestone in his coaching career aftering securing a 5-2 victory over the Patriots. A milestone that many coaches never achieve…Randy earned his 675th softball win!

When Coach Randy Stough moved his family to Wetumpka in 1997, it was an opportunity for him to coach basketball at Wetumpka High School. Basketball was his true love, but after learning that Wetumpka was a coach short on the softball field, he agreed to lead the Lady Indians for just one season. Fast forward to today, Coach Stough has been on the field for 25 years and has earned more than 680 wins and counting as he leads the Lady Panthers deeper into postseason play.

“I am humbled,” said Coach Stough, PCA’s head softball coach. “I can’t be the one on the field pitching, batting, or playing defense, so this accomplishment is only possible because of the players as well as assistant coaches, supportive parents, and administrators. My wife and family have been my biggest fans and support me even when I have been away from them to coach and do what I love to do.”

Coaching is a family affair, and his success is partly due to his wife, Michelle Stough. Michelle has always been a strong supporter of PCA athletics and, most of all, her husband. Michelle puts in countless hours, always making sure Randy and his team have everything they need (and most of what they want) to succeed.

Since taking the head coaching position for the Lady Panthers, he’s led his teams to seven area championships, five region runner-ups, two region championships, a state runner-up in 2021, and in 2018 he coached PCA to its first state softball championship.
