PCA Senior Austin McCawley signs with Faulkner University
PCA senior Austin McCawley will be sticking around the Tri-County area for a while and for more than one reason. McCawley accepted a football scholarship with Faulkner University and signed last week at PCA with his parents and the PCA football team there to support him. Coach Knapp from Faulkner has spearheaded Austin’s recruitment along with Head Coach Charlie Boren. He was recruited to play offensive line.
PCA head football coach Chris Jones said, “Austin McCawley is a perfect example of what any coach would want his players to be. He is many things; spiritual leader and mentor, as well as a fierce competitor. Faulkner has just signed a young man that will make both his former high school, Prattville Christian Academy, and his future college very proud that he chose them as part of his journey to adulthood.”
Austin’s mom, Brigitte McCawley, is excited for her son, saying, “From a parent’s perspective, we were impressed with the disciplined and structured program that our son will be experiencing as an athlete at Faulkner University this coming fall. The plans that this institution has in place to support both spiritual and academic needs, in addition to athleticism, will provide him with a comprehensive program offering the greatest potential for success during his college career. We are pleased with his decision and look forward to becoming a part of the Faulkner family.” Austin echoed these feelings by saying, “I was really set on finding a Christian school. I wanted a place that was centered around God and close to home so I could still see family and stay connected to the football and wrestling programs at PCA. I know I made a great decision and can’t wait to get started at Faulkner.”
Brandon Slay, the Faulkner University co-offensive coordinator said, “I like the size of Austin. He is tall, broad shouldered, and has very good feet. He could be a role player for us within two years if he progresses like I think he can. I also like the fact that he is also a wrestler because that tells me he is mentally and physically tough.”
PCA is proud of Austin and his achievements, and the staff and coaches all look forward to seeing him become a key player in the Faulkner University football program over the next few years.
