PCA’s Model UN Team Places in Local Competition

PCA’s Model United Nations team competed at LAMP’s International Model United Nations conference earlier this month for a total of 22 hours. The team of 10 made hundreds of speeches and motions and passed dozens of resolutions, each competing against at least 50 other delegates. After three long days of constant presenting and professionalism, it all became worth it: eight of the 10 delegates walked away with awards. 

With many of these delegates being first-timers, PCA walked away with (3) fourth place, (1) third place, (1) second place, and (2) first place finishes; more awards than any other single school in the competition. “I am so proud of them,” said Leigh Ann Blackmon, PCA’s Model UN sponsor and coach, “Emmy’s pushing and [her] being so hard on them definitely paid off in the end.”

PCA will move on to compete in the Madison County United Nations conference this weekend and the Alabama Model United Nations Conference at the University of Alabama in Huntsville starting on February 14.  The team is expected to bring home even more awards.

Fourth place: Brandon Carter (11), Garrett Strickland (11) and Mallory McLaughlin (12)

Model UN is dedicated to educating, inspiring, and mobilizing Americans to support the principles and vital work of the United Nations and its agencies. It is a simulation of the UN General Assembly and its other multilateral bodies where students perform an ambassador role while debating relevant and timely topics applicable to actual United Nations discussions, and is one of the many extracurricular activities that students in grades 8-12 can choose to be involved in at Prattville Christian Academy.
