PCA’s Competitive Cheer Team Recaps National Cheer Competition

 In Athletics

Between 9 and 13 February, PCA’s competition cheer team went to Disney World in Orlando, Florida, for the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championships (NHSCC). Cheerleader Savana Wesch relays the highlights of the trip:

On our first day in Disney, we started the day with practice before heading to Magic Kingdom. We had so much fun going on rides and hanging out with our groups as we walked around the park, and we had all kinds of delicious foods. The entire day was truly a special team-bonding experience as we ate dinner together at a restaurant in Magic Kingdom before heading back to the house to play pool and do Karaoke.

The next day was reserved for practice and getting ready for the competition. That night we drove to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Resort to compete in the Visa Center for Prelims, our first competition. We waited in anticipation a few hours after the competition and were ecstatic to discover that we had made semifinals.

Our last day looked much like the day before with plenty of downtime after practice to relax together. Upon arriving at the ESPN Wide World of Sports again, we went to the practice fields to warm up and review our routine before going to the competition, and we knew we were ready when we hit everything. We were super excited to do our routine for all of our family and friends. On the competition floor, we hit everything well except for one stunt, and we celebrated our accomplishment that night as a team. We ended up getting 8th place in semifinals, and we needed to get 7th to make it to finals. Even though we didn’t hit the routine perfectly, we were all still so supportive of each other and had so much fun. It was a great way to end the year!
