Andrew Allen Signs LOI with University of the Cumberlands; Makes PCA History as First Wrestler to Sign Collegiately

 In Athletics, School News

Prattville Christian Academy is proud to announce that Andrew Allen signed a Letter of Intent to wrestle with the University of the Cumberlands. Allen blazes a new trail for PCA’s wrestling program as the first student-athlete in program history to pursue his passion collegiately. After wrestling at a national tournament in Virginia Beach this past summer, he caught the eye of Patriot recruiters, and the rest is history. The men’s Patriot wrestling program is ranked ninth in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Conference and won the Mid-South Conference North Title just a few months ago.

As the team’s lone senior, Andrew went 36-9 and finished in the top two wrestlers at every tournament during his senior season. He has been an integral part of the program since his seventh-grade year. Coach Staggs has enjoyed having a front-row seat to see “Andrew grow as a young man and humble leader.” On the mat, he is a two-time state qualifier and placed sixth overall in his junior year. Allen was the first student-athlete in PCA’s program to win the Julian McPhillips Tournament and holds  the school record at 126 career wins.

PCA’s wrestling program lives by three F’s – faith, family, and fight. Coach Staggs encourages all his athletes to “leave it better than you find it by laying the foundation for future wrestlers to stand on.” Allen has certainly laid many “bricks” during his high school career. “Andrew has set the bar for future wrestlers in our program,” said Trent Staggs, PCA’s head wrestling coach. “He’s a talented athlete but an even better young man. He knows where his gift comes from and rarely misses an opportunity to openly pray before and after matches. His influence on our program and the sport of wrestling is tremendous, and I can’t be more excited for his future.”
