History in Huntsville: Two PCA Wrestlers Place in State
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Emotions ran high earlier this year as Prattville Christian Academy sent five wrestlers to Huntsville, Ala. to compete for a state title.
After a season full of hard work, the long hours and preparation started paying off for head coach Trent Staggs and his team.
Not only did he help shape each competitor to perform well on the mat, but he also helped shape them into Christ-like young men. As wrestling is still a growing program, and PCA is concluding its tenth year participating, it has been important for Coach Staggs to constantly push his team to work hard and have faith and discipline. As the first and only head coach of the wrestling program, he has truly seen the program grow into what it has become today—a multi-state qualifier program.
This year, The PCA Wrestling team had the best team finish in regionals in the program’s history, ranking 5th with 129.0 points. They also qualified five wrestlers for the state championship: Brysen Pugh, Aiden Cockrell, Brody Pugh, Matthew Post, and Jacob Sabir.
However, history continues far past this because PCA consistently showed out on the biggest stage.
For the first time, PCA had two wrestlers on final podiums, Brody Pugh in 3rd place and Aidan Cockrell in 2nd place. Further, this was PCA’s first time to have a wrestler compete in the state championship meet.
Coach Staggs has now had nine seasons of qualifying at least one wrestler for the state tournament. Congratulations on the accomplishments this season, and we can’t wait to see what you continue to accomplish in years to come!
