It’s More Than a State Championship for PCA’s Softball Program

 In Athletics

PCA’s softball team begins regional play in hopes of returning to the state tournament games to reclaim the program’s championship title. Since winning it all in 2018, the Lady Panthers have been clawing their way back to add another state championship to their already decorated hands. While winning is important to PCA’s softball program, there’s something that tops even the biggest win…a love of Christ and for others! This especially close group of student-athletes, coaches, and families are taking time to focus on building each other up before the thrill ride of post-season play starts today!

“Dear Lady Panthers,

Well, you have made it to Regionals! Several of you have been here before, but there are others who this is their first time. Some of you may not realize the amazing road ahead of you. This opportunity doesn’t come around very often. There are many schools whose athletes never get the opportunity to make it this far. So how bad do you want to be a State Champion? Are you prepared to play the best softball you have ever played before? Are you willing to do what it takes to win, on and off the field playing hard and cheering your teammates on? How amazing does this sound? PCA Lady Panthers 2021 Softball State Champions! This has a nice “ring” to it doesn’t it. Well, it is up to you!

You have prepared for years, months, and weeks for this moment. You, your teammates, your coaches, and parents have put in a countless number hours preparing for this. Now is the time. There are seven more games left to win it all. You got this!

Remember that you are playing to honor God and not self. Colossians 3:23 says “Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men.” God created you with the ability to give Him your all every time you step on that softball field. God’s mercy towards us gives us the strength to give our all and keep going when it gets hard.

Have confidence in God. “for You are my hope, Lord God, my confidence from my youth” Psalms 71:5. It is so important to have the confidence that you CAN succeed. If you don’t believe, there is a slim chance that the team will succeed. Have confidence in yourself, your teammates, and coaches every time you step on that softball field and in the batter’s box. Your mental attitude is as important as the physical aspect of the game. You have practiced and worked very hard. Trust that God, who has been faithful in the past, will continue to be faithful today, tomorrow and in the future. Play with character.

God is your stronghold. “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of distress. He cares for those who take refuge in Him” Nahum 1:7. There are times when we make mistakes as a team when we are out there on that field. Don’t let those mistakes define who you are. Brush yourself off, pick up your teammates, listen to your coaches, and move on to the next play. Remember to give it all you got, even when you feel like you don’t have anything left.

Remember you ladies are a TEAM. It takes more than one person on this team to be successful, no matter what your role is. Be an encourager to your teammates. Don’t tear each other down, because that is what your opponent wants you to do. Give an encouraging word when you see your teammate struggling and be happy for them when they are playing well. A team plays stronger together. Love one another as these are memories you will have for a lifetime.

Now let’s go Lady Panthers and play PCA Softball! We believe in you!”

Cheer on the Lady Panthers today at Bowers Park in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The first game is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. and the 3:15 p.m. game and 9:00 a.m. game the following day is dependent on wins. Tickets may be purchased by clicking here. Good luck Lady Panthers! Take state!
