PCA’s swim team advanced deeper into the state competition than ever before with 11 student-athletes competing to make school history in the 1A-5A division of the AHSAA State Swim Meet at Auburn University earlier this month.

The boy’s 200 yard medley relay team and the boy’s 400 yard freestyle relay teams made up of Austyn McGregor, Cooper Osborne, Dawson Thweatt, and Austin Barnes placed seventh and fifth overall, respectively, in those events. Two sophomores, Austyn McGregor and Cooper Osborne made their presence known and will be athletes to watch in future years! Austyn McGregor placed third overall earning a personal best time of 5:31.60 in the 500 yard freestyle event. He made school history by becoming the first student-athlete to medal in the top three swimmers during the state competition. In addition to this history-making swim, he also placed fourth overall and earned another PR in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.44. Cooper Osborne placed 11th overall while also earning an all-time personal record of 1:13.33 in the 100 yard breaststroke.

“Austyn is such an amazing swimmer,” said Monica Greene, PCA’s head swim coach. “He has a tremendous work ethic that is contagious on our team. I am so proud of him coming into a new school and becoming not only a leader for our team, but also a friend to the other swimmers. We have so many promising young swimmers, the future is really bright for PCA’s swim team. What this team achieved is a tradition that should continue for many years to come.

PCA’s swim team performed so well that all finishes were new school records! The team and individual performances were fast enough for PCA to place sixth overall in the state meet with a young team who is already putting in the work ahead of next year’s season.
