Welcome Coach Fussell – PCA’s Head Football Coach

We are pleased to announce that John Fussell has accepted the position of head football coach at PCA effective June 1. While he doesn’t officially join us until this summer, he will be actively involved on campus and in spring practice prior to June.

Coach Fussell comes to PCA from Straughn High School. As the defensive coordinator of the Andalusia-based 4A school, Fussell has assisted the Tigers in reaching the playoffs each year since 2008. He is married to Virginia Puckett Fussell and together they have four children; Lauren (25), Luke (23), Courtney (20) and Carolina (18).

“I was called into coaching. I love to compete; most of all I thrive on the planning, preparation and work that leads up to the competition,” said Coach Fussell. “There is just something special about coming together as a team sweating and bleeding as one body working towards a common goal. A team is much like the body of Christ – each position acting as the different parts of the body. We are all required to work together for the greater good.”

“Whatever is accomplished will be to the glory and honor of Christ. No one will work harder than our coaches and players; we will be prepared to play every Friday night. I want to bring a level of excitement to the game that will require our opponents stand up and take notice.”

In addition to a successful football coaching career, Coach Fussell also served as the head baseball coach for eight seasons with six post season appearances. During his time as head coach, the baseball teams achieved several area championships and set multiple school records.

In addition of his coaching duties, Fussell will also teach in PCA’s History Department. “We are pleased that Coach Fussell has joined the Prattville Christian team. He is a proven winner who will have a significant positive impact immediately,” said Ron Mitchell, president.
